Fraktur Wedding Tree

|

Pattern
Information:
This delightful quilt was influenced by early drawings of the Pennsylvania
Dutch culture. Frakturs were made in early 1880's and were presented
as birth and baptism certificates and later presented to schoolchildren
by schoolmasters, as rewards for achievement in class. More often,
Frakturs had religious references or quotes from the Bible which
referred to some aspect to the life hereafter. All

My True Love Gave To Me

|

Pattern
Information:
This quilt was inspired while attending the Houston International
Quilt Show. My trip there was made more enjoyable by staying with
my cousins. My cousin is a student of the Russian language and has
traveled extensively to Russia. One evening, she set the table centerpiece
with a bowl of Russian eggs, and to my delight, each egg was embellished
in the Russian Fairytale manner with the 12 Days of Christmas. I
immediately thought - "Quilt!!!" I proceeded to sketch
the delightful designs and have since developed my own personal
interpretation of that song we all sing duirng the holidays....ON
THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS....MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME"

Tussie Mussie

|

Pattern Information:
The Tussie Mussie Quilt is out of print (the very first quilt I
designed and sponsored by the Benartex Company for Fall Market of
1999). After the initial quilt designs were sketched, I proceeded
to take them along to the International Quilt Market in Houston,
Texas With some prodding and encouragement from my friends (Jean
Shaw and Karen Gibson, owners of the Quilter's Attic in Goodlettsville,
Tennessee) I went to the Benartex booth with my sketches. Benartex
was immediately excited by the designs and sent me enough fabric
to create this quilt for their booth at the following quilt show.
How Exciting was that!? The designs were created out of my love
for gardening, the flowers are my interpretation of some of my favorite
plants - Lily of the Valley, Bleeding Hearts, Pansies, Roses &
Ferns - all gathered to make up the center block called a Tussie
Mussie. In the early 1800's, Tussie Mussies were small bouquets
of flowers and herbs gathered from the garden and used indoor to
create a pleasant perfume to dispell food or sickroom odors.

| How Many Fishes in the Sea?
|
|

Pattern
Information: My brother, John Piet, who is a marvelous
sculptor, artists and Fine Arts Department Head of Macomb College,
Michigan, designed this particular quilt several years ago. My granddaughter,
Lily Catherine, was visiting for the summer and was bored while
helping me in the office. So, like all good grandmothers, I gave
her a pencil and paper and told her to draw something. We proceeded
to fax the drawing to my brother and he faxed back a wonderful sketch.
The sketch contained a page full of whimsical fishes and frogs and
sea creatures that delighted Miss Lily and he added at the bottom
of his drawing - "How Many Fishes In the Sea?" Another
thought - QUILT!!! So with the wonderful imagination of my brother
and Miss Lily Catherine, and some additions of my own, another quilt
was born. This too, was done for Benartex's booth at the International
Quilt Market & Festival in the fall of 1999. I have seen an
ad in the Australian Quilt Magazine offering a block of the month
for this pattern, although I'm not sure where they got the patterns
from - or do I? I guess we could call it an "international
quilt".
